Getting the Most From Your PAINEZER Pen

Will PAINEZER actually fix what's causing the pain?

While PAINEZER can help reduce pain, it isn't able to actually fix what might be causing it. It is still important to seek professional medical advice and make a comprehensive management strategy with your doctor or specialist.

For your convenience, you can download and print a fact sheet for your GP or specialist. This will help them to identify where PAINEZER might be of best use in the management of your condition.

Are there times when I shouldn't use PAINEZER?

PAINEZER has no interactions with drugs, which makes it quite safe in a range of situations, but there are some situations where you should seek medical advice before commencing or continuing with PAINEZER treatment:

  • if you suffer from epilepsy
  • if you are or become pregnant
  • if you use a pacemaker

Also, you shouldn't use your PAINEZER directly over metal implants.

How close should I hold the pen?

You need to make sure that the tip of your PAINEZER pen is firmly in contact against your skin or clothing - as close as it can be to the nerves. But there is no benefit from pressing it into the skin so that it's uncomfortable.

How hard should I depress the button?

There is no benefit to be gained from pressing hard - a soft click will be as powerful as a hard one ... so don't make your thumb work too hard!

How long should I wait in-between clicks?

Generally one or two seconds. The piezo effect is made by compressing a quarts crystal. They crystal needs some time to spring back to it's normal shape in order to get a maximum charge. You won't damage the crystal if you prefer to click faster, but the size of the charge you get could vary unpredictably if you click too quickly.

Sometimes my PAINEZER seems like it's not as strong as when I first got it.

We've found in our own testing that the discharge is sometimes more noticeable than at other times. This is normal - sometimes we are more sensitive for various physiological reasons - sometimes less. Also, it's normal to get used to it over time.

How do I know my PAINEZER is working?

Sometimes the discharge might seem so slight, it's easy to wonder if the PAINEZER is working, or if it is wearing out. To check, try a few of the more sensitive areas (eg. the fingertips).

If it's still not working, and it's less than 12 months since you bought your PAINEZER, you are entitled to a replacement.

Why shouldn't I click the PAINEZER unless it's held against something?

Clicking the PAINEZER when there is nowhere for the charge to go to, can shorten the lifetime of your PAINEZER.

Disclaimer: Seek medical advice

Electrical stimulation is used to achieve temporary pain relief it does not treat the underlying cause of the pain. Users of PAINEZER are therefore strongly advised to seek professional medical advice, and to develop a management plan that is most appropriate for your condition (i.e. is safe, effective and cost effective, and deals with the cause of the problem if possible). Electrical stimulation is one possible means to achieve some pain reduction, which does not have the side-effects of many other treatments, and is deserving of consideration as part of your overall management plan.
